Esotho Trading is a leading South African construction and engineering company delivering complex infrastructure projects across civil engineering, building construction, electrical engineering, and mechanical engineering sectors. With a strong national footprint and CIDB registered capabilities across multiple disciplines, the company continues to expand its engineering division and strengthen its tendering capacity. To support this growth, Esotho Trading is seeking to appoint a highly experienced Electrical and Mechanical Quantity Surveyor / Estimator to join its professional team and lead the preparation of electrical and mechanical engineering tenders.

Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma in Quantity Surveying, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or
Construction Management
• Minimum 7 years proven experience in estimating and tender preparation
• Demonstrated experience in Electrical Engineering (EP/EB) and Mechanical Engineering (ME) projects
• Experience working on government, municipal, Eskom, water boards, or industrial tenders
• Strong understanding of CIDB tender requirements
• Experience with BOQs, cost planning, and tender pricing
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and engineering designs
• Strong administrative and tender coordination skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, construction estimating tools, and document management systems

Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will play a central role in the tendering and estimating department, ensuring that Esotho Trading
submits competitive, compliant, and technically sound bids.
Tender Administration and Coordination
The Quantity Surveyor / Estimator will be responsible for coordinating and administering the entire tender preparation process. This
includes reviewing tender invitations, identifying key technical and commercial requirements, and ensuring that all tender
submissions meet the compliance standards required by clients, regulatory bodies, and procurement frameworks.
The candidate will manage tender documentation, compile submission packages, and ensure that all schedules, forms, and
supporting documents are accurately completed and submitted within strict deadlines.
Cost Estimation and Pricing
The role requires detailed preparation of cost estimates for electrical and mechanical engineering works. This includes
analyzing project drawings, specifications, and scope of work to determine material quantities, labour requirements, plant usage,
subcontractor costs, and project risks.
The estimator will develop detailed pricing models and ensure that the final tender price reflects accurate costing, appropriate risk
allowances, and competitive market positioning.
Bill of Quantities (BOQ) Analysis
The candidate will review and interpret Bills of Quantities and ensure that all items are correctly priced. Where necessary, the
estimator will prepare internal BOQs or cost breakdown structures to support the pricing process.
The role also includes identifying omissions, discrepancies, or errors in tender documents and preparing formal queries or
clarifications for submission to clients.
Supplier and Subcontractor Engagement
The estimator will liaise with suppliers and subcontractors to obtain quotations for electrical equipment, mechanical installations,
plant, materials, and specialized services.
This includes evaluating supplier quotations, negotiating competitive rates, and ensuring that subcontractor proposals comply with
project specifications and engineering requirements.
Technical Tender Documentation

The role requires collaboration with engineering teams to compile technical tender documentation. This may include preparing or

• Construction methodologies
• Project execution plans
• Resource schedules
• Technical compliance statements
• Engineering capability documentation

The estimator must ensure that all submissions align with the client’s evaluation criteria and technical requirements.
Risk Identification and Cost Control
The Quantity Surveyor / Estimator must identify potential risks associated with electrical and mechanical installations, including
material availability, site conditions, construction complexity, and programme constraints.
These risks must be incorporated into the tender pricing and mitigation strategies to protect the company’s commercial interests.
Tender Submission Management
The candidate will oversee the final assembly of tender submissions, ensuring all documents are properly formatted, signed,
indexed, and compliant with procurement requirements.
This includes managing submission portals, tender boxes, electronic submissions, and deadline coordination.
